Mudslide closes Lamoille Canyon Road

LAMOILLE – Just when it seemed the problems with spring runoff
in Lamoille Creek were focused in the town of Lamoille, a mudslide
blocked the nearby Lamoille Canyon Scenic Byway.

The mudslide happened some time before 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, in a steep valley above the northeast side of the road.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the mud on the road is 100 feet wide and up to 20 feet deep in places.

With concerns of flooding, local campers left Thomas Canyon Campground by mid afternoon on Monday.
